In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we want to highlight strong women who are making history, today! Introducing Wilma Powell.
Wilma Powell, also known as “The Regulator,” changed the way women’s roles are viewed at ports across the nation and the world. She is the first woman in the nation to hold the position of Chief Wharfinger, and was the only woman, and the first African American to be promoted to the executive position of Director of Trade and Maritime Services. The accomplished Wilma Powell is also recognized for her community service efforts as she is involved in numerous maritime-related and civic organizations and is a recipient of many awards and honors.
